Our current 'Identities' exhibition, featuring new work by Clare Bonnet, Toni Cogdell, Henrietta Dubrey and Veronica Wells, has sparked a great deal of discussion here at the gallery. For example on how women are respresented in painting, the idea of 'the 'woman artist', is the role of women in the arts different from that of men's?
Here are some thoughts from Clare Bonnet on her artistic practice:
"The truth in my mind is that there is no difference to the way a woman makes art and the way a man makes art. Making art is an expression of humanity, filtered through one particular human’s experience."
