We are pleased to share news about a commission we arranged on behalf of Jenny Packham for a new painting by Veronica Wells. The work was to be taken to Jenny’s atelier at Paris Fashion week, and then later displayed at her flagship Mount Street Store in London.
Jenny Packham was delighted to receive her painting, which went straight off to Paris along with Jenny’s collections for Fashion Week.
Jenny has long been a collector of Veronica’s paintings. She has previously commissioned Veronica to paint works for her flagship Mount Street Store in London.
On this occasion, Jenny asked Veronica to make a painting inspired by the dazzling gold dress designed by Jenny and worn by HRH The Duchess of Cambridge, as she was titled then. The Duchess wore the dress for an appearance at the premier of James Bond: No Time to Die at The Royal Albert Hall in September 2021.
Veronica has successfully responded to her brief, which was that she was not to make a portrait likeness of the Duchess, but to respond to a celebrated fashion moment represented by the eye-catching glittering gold gown. Here she has captured that exciting moment of anticipation. Veronica has added to the drama with the diver poised in the background, about to take the plunge.
Veronica created a suite of paintings in her distinctive, loosely constructed style using broad, rapid brushwork that seems to capture both delicate sequins and sweeping swathes of fabric.
We’re delighted to have retained the other works in the collection that feature the gold dress – these will be part of our Christmas exhibition ‘Merry and Bright’ which will launch on 19th November.
