Last weekend we were thrilled to launch ‘The Dog Show’ by Catherine Rayner. The exhibition was attended by Catherine and her family and we were thrilled to welcome children who had been awarded prizes in our ‘Draw a Dog’ Competition.
Catherine recently became the owner of Otto, a lively little Dachshund and since then she has been rather preoccupied with dogs – their variety, character; and best of all, the connections they share with their owners.
The exhibition is an exploration of hounds, terriers and other sorts of pooches in all their assorted shapes and sizes; a show highlight (now sold!) is Sanda, Mary, Otis, Dilys And Hester a charming group of five different dogs all seated in a row, all sharing the same expectant expression. Catherine has also explored much larger media, creating a striking collection of paintings on board. In our window is ‘Zoe’ a stunning whippet, curiously sniffing at a passing bumble bee.
Also in our window, a ‘Hall of Fame’ – sixteen individual portraits of numerous dog breeds from a St Bernard to a mop-haired Poodle.
Our thanks go to Catherine who made the trip to Oxford from her home in Edinburgh to launch this wonderful exhibition! She chatted with numerous visitors and collectors, and the whole afternoon felt wonderfully festive.
‘The Dog Show’ continues until 28th May.
