Kerry Louise Bennett works with narrative, colour and pattern to create her still life motifs. Her previous occupations in set-design, furniture restoration and photography inform her compositions, exploring the personality of objects and surroundings through placement. The fauvist approach Kerry takes offers a unique composure that pairs with her vivid palette and textured surfaces. Kerry begins by remembering the smaller moments in life that moved her, whether it’s the arrangement of a bouquet, the placement of a table or the pattern of cloth.

Referring to herself as a storyteller at heart, Kerry draws influence from the anecdotal nature of musicians such as Kate Bush and David Byrne, binding them with beauty and simplicity of our everyday surroundings. “I like things that are a bit mysterious,” Kerry says, “…After I’ve romanticised something, I can mend it. I can invent a story behind it.”

Kerry is a self-taught painter and has had work previously featured on TOAST and The Art Post.
