Peter Slight’s ceramic figures are quirky and playful, playing with shape and form to create his expressive faces. Using the slip cast technique, Peter creates a casting mould to make editions of each piece. Each of Peter’s casts have their own distinct personality.

Peter’s slab-built debut collection at Sarah Wiseman Gallery draw influences from mid-century modern design and Cycladic figurines. On top of their bottle-shaped figures rest inquisitive heads, tilted as if fascinated by the viewers presence. Their glazes recreate the look of aged metals, such as copper or bronze, with a look of oxidised residue coating them as if fresh from excavation. Peter has also included slip-cast ceramic busts that give a nod to brutalism with the tactile, eggshell white surface, each equipped with doting eyes and a mischievous smile.

Peter studied illustration, graduating in 2000, and has had work featured in Elle Decoration, Yolklore, Gervasoni catalogue & The World of Interiors.
