Sophie Alda’s ceramics explore function, sculpture and narrative. When creating her vessels, she playfully rejects any hierarchy fine art has over craft and incorporates bold design with materiality. Reminiscent of ancient ceramics in shape, Sophie creates a contemporary twist in the surface decoration. Her organic forms are made distinct through her use of cobalt blue.
Sophie is a keen educator and founding member of Clay Collective in Hackney, a shared studio space where creators can work and collaborate. Sophie has also delivered workshops and education programming to organisations such as the Tate, the Camden Arts Centre, The Whitechapel Gallery, The Craft Council and Somerset House.
