Maxine Sutton creates visual dialogues between stitch, print and paint. Depicting narratives from her early years to recent experiences, Maxine explores overlapping themes ranging from femininity, ecology and anatomy. Maxine collects materials, often working from scraps, and layers them into both abstracted and figurative forms, crossing over the boundary between recycled textiles and fine art making.

Maxine says, 'My practice combines early childhood experiences of domestic textiles and home sewing, with my formal art education in Fine Art / Painting, where postwar British abstraction and American abstract expressionism were defining influences.'

Maxine studied at Ravensbourne College of Art & Design, going on to do a PGCE in Secondary Art at Goldsmiths and then an MA in Constructed Textiles at the Royal College of Art. She has since exhibited internationally including in California and Turner Contemporary, Margate.
