Janine's unique works are inspired by her interest in historic ceramics. She spends a lot of time in museums, drawn to the less sophisticated pieces, seeking out those with more unusual charm or even humour.
Her ceramics are hand-built, decorated with traditional cobalt blue and silkscreened oxides, echoing domestic wares of the parlours and kitchens of the past. However, her swooping handles and angular edges keep her overall look contemporary and fresh.
Janine Roper gained a first-class honours degree at Bath Spa University in 2008. She joined the Gloucester Guild of Craftsmen in 2009, and now works from her studio in Bath.
