Simon J Harris' paintings are cinematic in scale with a potent, awe-inspiring presence. The surface is glossy and luminous like celluloid film, creating a hyper-real intensity which immediately engages the viewer with the physicality and the compositional qualities of the paintings. Simon's artistic practice is informed by an academic interest in theoretical ideas behind abstraction in art and explores the act of transformation of figurative elements in painting into abstract planes. His work is concerned with the interplay between the recognisable and the abstracted expression, creating compelling, eerily visionary art. Simon's deeply intellectual approach to abstract art combined with an ever more masterful, exceptionally refined artistic practice has created an original and sophisticated voice.
Simon J Harris gained a PhD in Fine Art Practice in 2015 from Wolverhampton University and is currently a lecturer there.
